4. FACULTY OF INTEGRATED DENTAL MEDICINE

4.01 MISSION OF STATEMENT
It is designed and dedicated to provide the integrated dental medical education to the officially qualified students and practitioners of dental medicine with an opportunity to enhance their academic growth (knowledge and skills) to, Postgraduate (Diploma, Advanced Studies and Research) levels in order to provide the quality service to the patients and helps the community to lead a long comfortable denture protection, oral health and hygiene.

4.02 AIMS OF THE COURSE

  • To enrich with the modern medicine with traditional principles, diagnostics and therapeutics tools and techniques.
  • To provide the possible scientific backgrounds to the traditional dental medicine   for more effective, efficient and productive dental health care delivery to the masses.
  • To bridge the existing gaps between modern and traditional dental medical systems of treatment and healing.

4.03 ELIGIBILITY TO ADMISSION 
The candidate seeking admission in the faculty of integrated dental  medicine must have passed their medical graduation as BDS or equivalent qualification from India or abroad.

4.04 SYSTEMS INVOLVED
The present curriculum of WAIM has been prepared with keeping in view, the availability of the commonly practiced dental medical systems in India and abroad with traditional dental medicine (TM) / healing practices. The grass course contents will be based on the same modular and sub-modular design. The following systems have been incorporated in consideration of present curriculum:

GROUP I. Modern Dental Medicine:
Western Dental Medicine - Modern Dental Medicine.

GROUP 2. Traditional Dental Medicine:
Indian Dental Medicines in accordance to- Ayurveda / Unani / Siddha / Homeopathy and Yoga & Naturopathy.

In preparation of the curriculum, we have taken into the consideration the fundamental concepts of Indian Dental medicine  as- principles, diagnostics and therapeutic aspects . Candidates of Western Dental Medicine (Modern Dental Medicine) seeking admission in faculty of integrated dental medicine has to choose at least one system from Group II.

4.05 SUBJECTS FOR POSTGRADUATION
WAIM offer postgraduate courses as Postgraduate (Diploma, Advanced Studies and Research) levels to already qualified practitioners of Dental Medicine in integrated dentistry in general and in specialty as- Diploma (DDM), Advanced Studies (ASDM) and Research (RDM). The courses are offered in following branches and specialties.

4.06 DURATION OF COURSES
As described under the faculty of Integrated Medicine.

4.07 COURSE CURRICULUM
The broad course curriculum for Postgraduate Courses (Diploma, Advanced Studies and Reaearch)  are designed in such way so that any candidate can easily attain the desired qualification in most effective and efficient way. The course curriculum has two aspects:

              (I) Theoretical Aspect
              (II) Practical Aspect

(I). Theoretical Aspect: The theoretical aspects cover principles, diagnostics and therapeutics aspects of Integrated Dental Medicine. The broad course contents are the same  for diploma and degree courses. Based on the components, the contents have been grouped into three Major Modules and Sub-modules as mentioned under.

(A). Basic Principles of Integrated Dental Medicine: It involves following sub - modules:

  • Basic Sciences of Integrated Dental Medicine.
  • Integrated Principles of Traditional Dental Medicine.

(B). Diagnostic Principles of Integrated Dental Medicine: It involves following sub - modules:

  • Concept of Integrated Dental Health
  • Principles of Integrated Dental Pathology
  • Principles of Integrated Dental Diagnostics

(C). Therapeutic Principles Integrated Dental Medicine: It involves following sub - modules:

  • Principles of Integrated Dental Medicine 
  • Applied Integrated Dental Medicine
  • Search and Research in Integrated Medicine

NOTE: The fundamental division of the course is same for all i.e. diploma and Advanced Studies courses are same. It varies with the depth of examination. The details of course contents will be communicated to the candidate after enrollment for the specific course.

 (II) Practical Aspect: After admission to the postgraduate courses, the candidates are assigned to write a Project / Thesis which one has to submit  three and six months prior to the final examination. Thus, the practical examination consists of three components:

              (A) Clinical Examination
              (B) Project / Thesis Work 
              (C) Viva -voce

Project/Thesis: The candidate undergoing postgraduate Diploma/Advanced Studies  are strictly instructed to prepare the project/thesis as guided by the head office, failure to adhere to the guidelines is liable to reject the project/thesis. The project for the postgraduate diploma should not exceed more than 50 pages while the thesis for Advanced Studies should not exceed more than 100 pages except in rare conditions with permission of WAIM. The method of preparation of Project / Thesis is same as mentioned in the Faculty of Integrated Medicine.
